Mikhail Salcedo blends birthday and Mother’s Day celebration in intimate jazz brunch

Mikhail Sal­cedo says this year’s birth­day, which co­in­cides close­ly with Moth­er’s Day, will mark a mile­stone in his per­son­al his­to­ry.

“Be­yond thank­ing my moth­er for bring­ing me in­to the world, rais­ing me, and stand­ing by me through good times and dif­fi­cult ones, this will be the first time I am cel­e­brat­ing my birth­day on Moth­er’s Day it­self—al­though my ac­tu­al birth­day is a cou­ple days af­ter,” he said.

Sal­cedo not­ed that on Sun­day, from 11 am to 3 pm, moth­ers—whether first-time or ex­pe­ri­enced, of any age, back­ground, re­li­gion, eth­nic­i­ty, body type, or so­cio-eco­nom­ic stand­ing—are in­vit­ed to gath­er at the in­ti­mate live en­ter­tain­ment venue Kafe Blue, 1D Wright­son Road, Port-of-Spain. Guests may at­tend alone or with com­pan­ions for a cel­e­bra­tion ho­n­our­ing moth­ers as “queens.”

“Let’s cel­e­brate the queens with mu­sic that makes them rem­i­nisce, wine a bit, and fall in love all over again,” Sal­cedo said. “It’s al­so my birth­day cel­e­bra­tion, so ex­pect some ex­tra en­er­gy.”

He ex­plained that the con­cept was de­signed to be per­son­al and mean­ing­ful—an ex­pe­ri­ence where mu­sic, at­mos­phere, and en­er­gy com­bine to cre­ate last­ing mem­o­ries.

Themed A Moth­er’s Day Brunch & Birth­day Cel­e­bra­tion, the event is de­scribed as a live mu­sic brunch ex­pe­ri­ence blend­ing jazz, R&B, soul, and ca­lyp­so. It promis­es an in­ti­mate, feel-good set­ting with high-qual­i­ty live per­for­mances, cu­rat­ed food of­fer­ings, and a re­laxed, en­gag­ing at­mos­phere.

Guests will al­so en­joy door prizes, a pho­to ses­sion cour­tesy El­liot Fran­cois Fo­tog­ra­phy, a spa ex­pe­ri­ence pro­vid­ed by Jade The Es­theti­cian, and gift care bas­kets.

The brunch menu will fea­ture mac­a­roni pie, co­conut bake, pi­geon peas in co­conut milk, chick­en sausage in toma­to sauce, rose­mary chick­en, fried salmon, salt­fish, green sal­ad, dessert, and a spe­cial sur­prise.

En­ter­tain­ment will be pro­vid­ed by jazz gui­tarist Dean Williams, vo­cal­ist Kadi­ja Je­re­mi­ah, pan­nist and pro­duc­er Kyle Noel, gui­tarist/vo­cal­ist Mar­cus Hy­po­lite, and North­ern Illi­nois Uni­ver­si­ty grad­u­ate pan­nist Jalen Charles.

Sal­cedo, a steel­pan vir­tu­oso and vo­cal­ist known for his work in Caribbean jazz, con­tin­ues to carve out a dis­tinct space in the lo­cal mu­sic land­scape.
