Andrzej Poczobut is free; this day could have come many months ago during the prisoner exchange in Ankara, PiS leader Jarosław Kaczyński stressed on Tuesday. “Better late than never,” he added, while also congratulating President Karol Nawrocki.
Polish authorities announced that journalist and activist of the Polish minority Andrzej Poczobut, imprisoned in Belarus since 2021, has been released as part of a prisoner exchange and is now in Poland. According to U.S. representatives, President Karol Nawrocki played a significant role in securing his release.
Kaczyński commented on the news of Poczobut’s release on X:
“Andrzej Poczobut is free! This day could have come many months ago, during the prisoner exchange in Ankara. At that time, Tusk’s government let this opportunity slip. Fortunately, better late than never. This is precisely why the Polish-American alliance matters. Congratulations to President Karol Nawrocki,”
Kaczyński emphasised.
