THE Morocco appointed its representative to the international final of the “Arab Reading Challenge” competition, one of the largest reading competitions in the Arab world. Organized on Tuesday in Rabat, the national final dedicated Khadija Boumlik, student of the Attalouh high school under the provincial management of Rhamna, affiliated with the Regional Academy of Education and Training of Marrakech-Safi.
The young winner will defend the colors of Morocco during the final phases planned in next October in Dubai, after having managed to stand out among millions of participants from different regions of the Kingdom.
Beyond the rankings, this edition was above all marked by an exceptional mobilization around reading. According to figures announced during the ceremony, more than 7 million studentsfrom different teaching cycles, participated in the competition through more than 17,000 schools and annexes. A record participation which reflects the scale taken by this initiative in Moroccan schools.
The Minister of National Education, Preschool and Sports, Mohamed Saad Berradastressed that reading now constitutes a central axis of the 2022-2026 educational roadmap. The ministry thus claims to be continuing several programs aimed at encouraging the daily practice of reading in schools, particularly through class libraries, reading spaces and parallel cultural activities.
Other distinctions were also awarded during this national final. The “Outstanding Supervisor” Award returned to the teacher Azzeddine El Mounsi from the Academy of Tangier-Tétouan-Al Hoceïma, while Hamza Kmili, student in Mohammedia, won the category dedicated to determined people. THE best school award was attributed to the Moulay Idriss qualifying high school reporting to the Academy of Fez-Meknes.
The organizers also highlight the impact of the competition on students’ reading habits. According to the Mohammed Ben Rachid Al Maktoum Initiatives Foundationa project partner, this competition helps to strengthen Arabic language skills, self-confidence and time spent reading among young participants.
