Chile is the leading exporter of dehydrated plums and the third exporter of nuts, after the United States and China.
Sustained progress: This meeting, which highlighted the importance of these sectors for strengthening economic and commercial relations between Morocco and Chile, was at the origin of BtoB meetings allowing Moroccan and Chilean operators to exchange their contacts and develop their partnerships.
The fourth edition of “Dried and Dehydrated Fruit Route” took place on Monday, May 4, in Tangier. Initiated by the Chilean Export Promotion Agency (ProChile) under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Chile, this meeting highlighted the importance of the dried and dehydrated fruit sector in trade between the two countries. It is part of the “development of economic and commercial relations between Morocco and Chile. Cooperation in dried and dehydrated fruits is experiencing sustained progress that we must seek to expand to other agri-food products,” said Alberto Rodriguez Aspillaga, Ambassador of the Republic of Chile to Morocco, while emphasizing the importance of this type of BtoB meetings for exporting and importing companies in order to exchange contacts and develop partnerships.
The “Dried and Dehydrated Fruit Route” was held, according to Dr Said Bahajin, ProChile director, for the second consecutive time in Tangier, for its third and fourth edition, and this after the launch of this event in El Kelaâ des Sraghna. This meeting was at the origin, he said, of BtoB meetings, allowing Chilean companies to present their dried and dehydrated fruits – which are recognized for their quality – to their Moroccan counterparts. Internationally, Chile is the leading exporter of dehydrated plums and the third exporter of nuts, after the United States and China. Moreover, Morocco remains “the main importer of nuts from Chile. Exports of Chilean raisins to Morocco continue to increase. They are following in the footsteps of nuts: they have been able to reach 4 million dollars annually,” underlined Mr. Bahajin.
According to data communicated during this meeting, trade between Morocco and Chile is experiencing constant and sustained development, reflecting a growing convergence of economic interests and a common desire to intensify their partnerships. “The current year, marking the 65th anniversary of relations between our two countries, has also demonstrated the maturity and solidity of this cooperation, while paving the way for a new phase, more ambitious and more structured,” explained Omar El Kadaoui, president of the CGEM of Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima.
The speaker highlighted the quality of the products presented by Chilean companies, as well as their stated desire to strengthen their presence on the Moroccan market. He continued that Morocco should not be seen only as a market, but as a real base for regional expansion. “Thanks to its free trade agreements with more than 55 countries and its African roots, the Kingdom offers Chilean investors a unique opportunity to access fast-growing markets,” underlined Mr. El Kadaoui.
Note that after Tangier, host city of this fourth edition, the Chilean companies participating in this meeting will follow their path for a second prospecting visit to Turkey, then a third to Poland before returning to Chile.
