The executive director of Agesic, Cristina Zubillagaannounced that the electronic wallet of the Uruguayan State will be operational in December 2026 and that the first document that is going to be integrated is the digital identity card.
“We want to have an electronic wallet by December, and have a digital ID in it with all the international standards that are needed,” declared this Tuesday, during the presentation of the Digital Strategy together with other State authorities, such as the Secretary of the Presidency, Alejandro Sánchez and the Minister of Industry, Fernanda Cardona.
For the following year, the executive director of Agesic plans to add other documents to the wallet: the driver’s license, health card and vaccination card. The intention is that the citizen can carry on his cell phone the credentials that he currently manages on paper or in different apps.

Another point of the advertisement points to the “interoperability”said the leader. The official strategy seeks to ensure that documents issued by the State can also be used and stored in other digital wallets that comply with the established standards, and not be tied exclusively to the app developed by Agesic.
Before the wallet, there is an intermediate step. In JulyAgesic will launch a electronic identity linked to the user’s ID and cell phone. This will mean that the user does not have to “need any element of proximity other than the ID to access all State procedures with a higher level of confidence.”
According to Zubillaga, this electronic identity will allow State procedures with a higher level of confidenceby associating the physical card with a specific device. It is the base on which the wallet with the digital ID will later be assembled.
