This summer, an extensive expansion and renovation of the Art School in Nuuk will be initiated.
Support from a number of foundations has made a renovation and expansion of the Art School in Nuuk possible.
In a press release, the head of the school, Ivínguak’ Stork Høegh, states that the school’s current facilities do not meet today’s requirements and that the conditions have been a challenge for a number of years.
Support from the Augustinus Foundation, the Aage and Johanne Louis-Hansen Foundation and the Beckett Foundation has made the renovation and expansion possible.
The renovation is expected to begin this summer, and will involve a significant strengthening of the school’s academic and physical framework:
– This expansion and renovation is an important step for the Art School. We create a better framework for both teaching and development, and we get the opportunity to strengthen the quality and admit more students.
– It is a development we have been working towards for many years, and which we can now finally realize, says Ivínguak´ Stork Høegh.
The department has helped with applications
She states that the Department of Housing and Infrastructure has played an important role in assisting the school in applying for funds for the project.
After the expansion, the school will be able to admit up to 10 students every two years. After training at the Art School, collaborations have been established so that the completed students can further their education at the Aarhus Art Academy and the Funen Art Academy.
According to Ivínguak’ Stork Høegh, the desire to expand and renovate the school goes back to the former head of the art school, Arnannguaq Høegh, who worked purposefully to complete a modernization and expansion – an ambition which is now becoming a reality.
The art school has been housed in a building on John Møllerip Aqq since 1998. 5 B-56. Previously, the school was located in the former bathing establishment in the period 1972–1998.
