Police officers were deployed at different points to supervise the compliance with curfew.
In Guayaquil and Quito Checkpoints were installed to check cars traveling during the curfew period.
The measure is in force between 11:00 p.m. (local time) and 5:00 a.m. until Monday May 18.
Covers nine of the twenty-four provinces of the country: Guayas, Manabí, Santa Elena, Los Ríos, Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas, Pichincha, El Oro, border with Peru; and Sucumbíos and Esmeraldas, bordering Colombia, key to drug trafficking routes.
The restriction will also apply in the municipalities of The Manna (Cotopaxi), Las Naves and Echeandía (Bolívar) and La Troncal (Cañar).
Penalties for non-compliance
The commander of the National Police for Quito, Patricio Almendárizrecalled that the penalty for violating the curfew ranges between one and three years in prison.
People who are detained during the curfew are placed under the orders of the authorities. (YO)
