Romania is getting closer to the moment when it could run out governmentafter the announcement P.S.D and GOLD regarding the filing of a motion of censure against the executive led by Ilia Bolojan. The decision comes just days after the P.S.D decided to withdraw political support for Bolojan and social democratic ministers resigned from the government.
With a Parliament of 463 members, the absolute majority will decide the fate of the Executive. Currently, according to official data, in Senateactivates 133 of MPsand in the Chamber of Deputies 330.
Thus, the motion that will be submitted by PSD and AUR needs 232 votes to be adopted. To initiate the motion of censure, 116 signatures are needed.
Currently, PSD and AUR have a combined 219 votes, so they need to get another 13 votes from the other parties to topple the Government.
The parties that remained in the governing coalition together have 181 votes: PNL – 73;
USR – 59; UDMR – 32; Minorities – 17.
If it is more than certain that the motion will be rejected by the parliamentarians PNL, USR and UDMRwhen it comes to the minorities national opinion seems to be divided. Thus, according to some sources consulted by Adevărul.ro, some of the members of the minority group could support the motion.
On the other hand, parties critical of the Government can bring 41 votes in support of the motion: SOS Romania – 15 parliamentarians; CAN – 14 parliamentarians; PACE First Romania – 12 parliamentarians.
Also, there are 22 unaffiliated MPs in the Parliament who left other parties.
PSD-AUR announcement
Marian Neacșu held press statements on Monday, April 27, 2026, at the Palace of the Parliament, where he announced, together with Petrișor Peiu, the initiation of a censure motion against Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan.
The two conveyed that the document will be drafted jointly and that they count on sufficient parliamentary support for the adoption of the motion.
“Following several rounds of discussions between the leaderships of our parties, it was decided that Mr. Petrișor Peiu and I would take care of the technical part of a joint censure motion. That is why we are here today. The work we will take care of is exclusively technical.
The political approach will probably be explained during this day by the presidents of the parties. As you know, we have convened a national permanent office at 2:00 p.m. where the final decision will be made. (…) We are jointly writing a no-confidence motion, we hope it will pass. We have a plan”, said Marian Neacșu.
He stated that he is following consultations with Nicușor Dan, in order to identify a political solution after the eventual vote in Parliament.
When will the motion be voted on?
AUR President, George Simiondeclared on Monday, April 27, after the announcement of the PSD-AUR joint censure motion, that his party will sign the document together with the other parties that want to support it.
The leader of the AUR stated that the motion will be submitted when the necessary signatures are collected to initiate the parliamentary procedure.
He also announced the estimated deadline for the vote in Parliament, namely May 5.
