In Tuapse early on Sunday morning the alarm was declared again. This time there were fears that the Ukrainian Armed Forces were attacking the city not from the air, but from the sea, but there were no problems. Meanwhile, more than 700 emergency services personnel continue to clear the sea coastline and waters of the Black Sea from fuel oil. According to the authorities, the bulk of the oil products that spilled during the depressurization of tanks during fires at the refinery and marine terminal have already been removed.
The threat of unmanned boats was announced in Tuapse on Sunday, May 3, at eight o’clock in the morning. “It’s dangerous to be on the seashore or nearby!” — the head of the city, Sergei Boyko, warned in his Telegram channel. However, the threat passed rather quickly: curfew was announced at noon.
In Tuapse, liquidation of the consequences of four Ukrainian drone raids continues, which resulted in fires at a refinery, a marine terminal and nearby facilities.
Thus, Mr. Boyko reported on Sunday that restoration work is being actively carried out on the territory of the gas filling station. “Specialists from the Tuapse District Administration and Tuapsegorgaz LLC are eliminating the consequences of the fire. It is planned that the work of the Tuapsegorgaz LLC enterprise will be resumed as soon as possible,” the mayor said.
On May 4, a door-to-door survey of the affected premises will begin. “Based on the results of the examination, certificates will be issued for carrying out repairs or purchasing housing,” the mayor said. According to him, while the authorities will resettle people in temporary housing, they will help in clearing and removing garbage from the damaged premises. 57 people who were previously evacuated from the area near the refinery remain in hotels in the city.
Let us remind you that since mid-April, Tuapse has been subjected to massive attacks by Ukrainian drones four times, each of which caused a fire at an oil refinery or at a marine terminal. Last fire happened on the night of May 1 at 2:26, the fire was completely extinguished on the same day at 9:52.
Emergency services do not say how much oil products ended up on the ground and in the water as a result of a series of fires when containers were depressurized, emphasizing that everything possible is being done to minimize damage to the environment. At the mouth of the Tuapse River, before entering the sea, a protective structure is being strengthened and a dam is being raised. After previous oil spills, booms were installed at sea, and rescuers are now replacing them with new ones.
By May 3, more than 15 thousand cubic meters of fuel oil and contaminated pebbles were removed from the beaches of the Tuapse region for disposal.
750 people and 65 pieces of equipment are taking part in the work, the operational headquarters of the Krasnodar Territory reported. According to Mr. Boyko, a significant part of the fuel oil that ended up in the sea was washed ashore by the current, and as a result, about 95% of the spill was quickly eliminated. The authorities are confident that the holiday season will not be disrupted.
Emergency situation in Tuapse was announced On April 28, the work to eliminate the consequences of fires is personally supervised by the head of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations, Alexander Kurenkov. Utility services are tidying up public areas in Tuapse, cleaning tiles, washing monuments. Volunteers have opened a center to help injured animals, where dogs and cats are washed of traces of fuel oil and soot.
