The real cost of the United States’ operation against Iran is about 50 billion dollars, which is about twice the Pentagon’s publicized figure.
“Armenpress”CBS News reported this, citing American officials familiar with internal assessments.
At the April 29 hearing of the US House of Representatives’ Committee on Armed Services, Pentagon officials estimated the cost of Operation Epic Fury at about $25 billion.
The amount, as stated by the sources, includes only the cost of ammunition. While Defense Secretary Pete Hegsett and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Dan Cain defended the Pentagon’s $1.5 trillion budget request in speeches to lawmakers this week, sources familiar with the internal estimates put the cost of the military operation now nearing $50 billion, according to U.S. officials.
This amount includes not only the cost of spent ammunition, but also the cost of damaged or destroyed military equipment and the loss of various facilities.
Jules Hurst, Acting Comptroller of the Pentagon Finance, stated at the hearing of the Senate Armed Services Committee on April 30 that it is still difficult to assess the damage suffered and the cost of restoring facilities in the region.
