PARAMARIBO — Broki did excellent business in the Suriname Major League on Thursday. Thanks to two goals from Franklin Singodikromo, the team recorded a 2-1 victory over Notch and thus takes over the coveted sixth place – good for the last play-off spot.
The victory brings Broki to 23 competition points, one more than Notch. Both teams also have a match in hand, leaving the battle for the play-offs completely open.
“Singodikromo broke the spell in the 67th minute by heading in a free kick from Brazilian Lucas da Silva: 1-0.”
The importance of the match was clear in advance. With a win, Notch would be almost assured of a play-off ticket, while Broki would only have a chance of qualifying with a win. Both teams emphatically opted for attack, which resulted in an attractive match with opportunities on both sides. Still, it remained 0-0 at halftime.
After the break the game image remained unchanged, but the goals were scored. Singodikromo broke the spell in the 67th minute by heading in a free kick from Brazilian Lucas da Silva: 1-0. Eight minutes later he doubled the lead, again on a pass from Da Silva.
The tension returned ten minutes before the end when goalkeeper Marvier Hupsel scored the tying goal from the penalty spot. The penalty was awarded after Broki goalkeeper Rufano Adipi brought down Brazilian Roger Verissimo in the penalty area. Hupsel stayed cool and scored: 2-1.
Shortly afterwards, Broki had to continue with ten men when Alirio Belfor stopped Verissimo with a foul. The action took place just outside the penalty area, which meant that a penalty was not awarded, but the defender did receive the red card.
