Vincentian-born Karen Hinds, a leadership strategist to executives around the world, recently took the TEDx stage and asked a question many people avoid: “Who actually knows the real you?”
Beyond the roles you play. Beyond what you have achieved. Beyond the version of you that people have come to expect.
The talk, Delivered on March 8, 2026, on International Women’s Day, is not a lecture, a press release said, adding that it is “ personal reflection shaped by experience”.
Hinds speaks about a period in her life when she had achieved success by every external measure and saw clearly that she had built a life where she was highly valued, but not fully known.
After relocating during the pandemic, she found herself in a new environment with no history and no expectations. That moment created space to reflect on something many high achievers do not often stop to examine. She had spent years being strong, dependable, and accomplished, while keeping parts of herself out of view.
Her message is one that resonates far beyond any one place. Many people are surrounded by others and still wonder if they are truly seen.
Hinds said this is not a personal failing. It is often the result of how we are taught to succeed.
“You can be surrounded by people and still be completely unknown. And at some point, that catches up with you,” Hinds said.
“For many in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Hinds’ presence on the TEDx stage is a moment of pride,” a press release said.
“Already established in her work, Hinds later contributed to The Searchlight newspaper and founded The Karen Hinds Phenomenal Woman’s Conference, creating space for women to gather, reflect, and grow.”
While her work is based in the United States, she has remained deeply connected to St. Vincent and the Grenadines throughout her journey.
Today, she is the author of five books, with a sixth, The 5 Commitments to Leading Without Losing You™, scheduled for release later this year.
She is also the founder of The RENEW Experience™, a leadership and wellness platform for women. Her work is global and focuses on leadership behavior, and performance under pressure in high-stakes environments.
While her work has taken her across the world, her message remains deeply human.
The TEDx talk is not about titles or achievements. It is about the courage it takes to be known and the importance of not losing yourself in the process of succeeding, a message that continues through her work with leaders and women around the world.
