The Governor of Banteay Meanchey Province and the South Korean Ambassador to Cambodia met yesterday to strengthen bilateral cooperation on border security and intensify the crackdown on escalating online scam operations.
During the meeting at the provincial hall, Governor Oum Reatrey and Ambassador Kim Chang-yong focused on safeguarding citizens and foreign investors from transnational crime. The discussions come amid growing international concern over technology-based fraud and human trafficking syndicates operating in Southeast Asian border regions.
Ambassador Kim commended the provincial authorities for their recent efforts to dismantle criminal “nests” and urged further tightening of enforcement measures. He emphasised that maintaining a secure environment is critical to the safety of South Korean tourists and the confidence of the business community.
In response, Governor Reatrey briefed the delegation on the province’s progress, affirming that border security remains a top priority. He noted that stabilising the region is essential to facilitating legitimate cross-border trade while suppressing illegal activities.
“The provincial administration is committed to ensuring that Banteay Meanchey remains a safe zone for international investment and tourism,” the Governor stated, expressing gratitude for South Korea’s continued developmental support.
Both parties pledged to enhance information sharing and coordination to combat cross-border crimes and protect civil liberties.
The meeting concludes a series of diplomatic efforts aimed at bolstering Banteay Meanchey’s international standing as a stable and secure hub for foreign enterprise. AKP
