THE Surreal water roller coaster, Beach Park, in Aquiraz, Ceará, was recognized by Guinness World Records as the tallest water roller coaster in the world.
The certificate was granted on Wednesday (29) after technical measurements that confirmed the attraction’s height of 28 meters — two meters above the previous record, belonging to the Tsunami Surge, in United Statescategory leader since 2021.
Opened a year ago, Surreal is different from traditional water slides, as its route also includes uphill sections, in which the floats are propelled by water jets. The first fall is the biggest, at seven meters, followed by three other falls and interspersed with climbs and spirals. The descent lasts just over a minute and reaches speeds of up to 42 km/h. From the top, you can see the beach and the surrounding area of the park.
Visitors descend in double tubes. A conveyor belt carries the buoys up the stairs, and covers protect visitors from the sun as they climb. On days of high demand, the park only allows descents in pairs — a restriction that can frustrate solo travelers or groups in odd numbers. Due to high demand, the park implemented the fast pass system for the first time, allowing priority access for an extra R$90 per person.
With an investment of R$30 million, Surreal was the first in a series of openings celebrating 40 years of Beach Park, opened in 1985 as a beach hut in Porto das Dunas. Last year, the park also opened the Arvorar, dedicated to the preservation of birdsand is expected to open a new resort, Ohana, by the end of this year.
Tickets to the park start at R$260, with half price for seniors, pregnant women and people with disabilities. Fortaleza residents also have a discount.
