George Simion announces on Monday, April 27, that the formation he leads, Alliance for the Union of Romanians (GOLD), will initiate court proceedings against the leader USR, Dominic Fritzafter his statements regarding alleged financing of the party from external sources, including from Russia.
Court action and charges of a political nature
The statements were made by the AUR leader during a press conference held at the Parliament Palace, where he categorically rejected the claims made by Dominic Fritz. Simion argues that the allegations go beyond a normal political confrontation and are not supported by evidence.
“We will take action in court and in every possible way. You cannot say that there is evidence that we have received money from Russia. We have made many mistakes in our political activity, but we have not been funded by any state,” said George Simion.
The AUR leader insisted that his party did not benefit from external funding. “What Dominic Fritz stated is not normal,” Simion said.
Political tensions and new legislative initiatives
George Simion also stated that AUR intends to challenge Fritz’s statements through all available legal means. In parallel, the leader of the formation spoke about what he considers to be unequal pressures and treatments at the political and institutional level, including in parliamentary activity.
At the same time, he announced that the AUR will request the inclusion on the agenda of the Permanent Bureau of the Senate of a design legislation regarding the return to the election of mayors and chairmen of county councils in two voting rounds.
