
Forecast: Cloudy weather and continued rain in the north

Baghdad and a number of governorates witnessed a wave of moderate to heavy rain, amid moderate spring weather, while a weather forecaster said the chances of rain would continue today, Wednesday, in parts of Salah al-Din and Diyala governorates, as a result of the remnants of atmospheric instability. Forecaster Sadiq Attia wrote on his Facebook page yesterday that “chances remain for light to moderate rain showers in these areas, with their intensity varying spatially.” He added, “The southern cities will witness fair to partly cloudy weather, with a gradual increase in cloud amounts during the daylight hours.” Noting that (there are opportunities for scattered rain showers in areas of Maysan and northern Dhi Qar, and may extend to parts of Samawa). He pointed out that “a new weather condition is expected to affect the central and northern regions next Friday, but it appears weak so far according to current data.” He stressed that “the pleasant spring weather will continue during Wednesday and Thursday, before temperatures gradually rise as summer approaches.” He called for (making the most of these times and enjoying the mild weather). For its part, the General Authority for Meteorology and Seismic Monitoring, affiliated with the Ministry of Transport, expected that Wednesday’s weather would be cloudy and rainy in the northern sections. The Authority said in a statement received by (Al-Zaman) yesterday that (the weather today, Wednesday, will be partly cloudy in the central and southern regions, and will be cloudy with moderate intensity rain showers in the northern regions). The statement indicated that (the maximum temperatures were recorded in Sulaymaniyah 20, Dohuk 21, Erbil 22, Kirkuk 24, Nineveh 25, Salah al-Din, Diyala, Anbar 28, Baghdad, Karbala 29, Wasit 30, Najaf, Diwaniyah, Maysan, Babylon 31, Muthanna 32, and Dhi Qar and Basra 33 degrees Celsius). The Baghdad Municipality had mobilized all service and mechanical efforts to confront the wave of rain that the capital was witnessing, while indicating its cooperation with the Ministry of Electricity to restore power and address faults quickly. The secretariat’s spokesman, Uday al-Jandil, said in a statement yesterday, “All the efforts of the municipal departments, the Mother Department, and the Baghdad Sewerage Department have been mobilized in the field, with full mechanical and human efforts on alert, as all mechanisms in the street are working to withdraw pools of water inside the capital, Baghdad.” He continued, “The amount of rain was large, while the governing stations worked at their maximum capacity, and there was supervision by the General Director of Baghdad Sewers, Mahmoud Aziz, in addition to the mobilization of sewerage personnel in their efforts to withdraw rainwater.” The Ministry of Electricity also directed its personnel to be on full alert to confront bad weather conditions. The Ministry stated in a statement yesterday that (Undersecretary for Transport and Distribution Affairs, Khaled Ghazai Al-Maadidi, directed all Ministry personnel to be on full and maximum alert to confront fluctuating weather conditions, storms and rainfall, and to support the efforts of the secretariat and municipal departments in all governorates).
