Jos Verstappen went through a scary moment at this weekend’s Rallye Wallonia in Belgium. In the first special test of the day, his father Max Verstappenthe four-time world champion of Formula 1himself a former driver (107 races), went off course in a twisty section of the woods.
The back part a Skoda The Fabia Rally2 hit a tree and the car lost control before going off the road and overturning on its roof. Jos Verstappen and his co-driver, Jasper Vermeulen, escaped unhurt from this accident.
It is not the first time that the father of “Mad Max” commits a serious piloting error in a rally. He had a similar adventure in 2024, violently hitting a tree on a narrow stretch. He wrecked his car and abandoned it.
Jos Verstappen (54) competed in Formula 1 for almost a decade between 1994 and 2003, with 107 Grands Prix to his credit and two podiums.
After coming through Benetton and Tyrell teams in particular, he finished 10th in the 1994 World Championship, his best result.
