Police are investigating a break-in involving a sitting senator’s vehicle at a supermarket carpark in Cascade on Monday afternoon.
Senator David Nakhid, 61, reported that he secured his black Mercedes-Benz at the carpark of Simple Choice Mart around 4:15 pm and went inside.
Around two minutes later, he returned to the vehicle after receiving information and discovered the rear right-side door glass had been smashed.
Further checks revealed that $10,000 in cash, a Christian Dior perfume valued at $2,600, a Lacoste perfume valued at $800, several foreign and local identification and bank cards, and keys to his home were missing. The items were kept in a black Armani backpack.
Police said he did not give anyone permission to remove the items.
Officers visited the scene and recorded a report. The vehicle was processed, and investigators said workable fingerprints were recovered.
CCTV footage from the supermarket has been requested as investigations continue.
