The chairman of Naalakkersuisut marks a big day in Ilulissat with his speech in the new terminal.
Jens-Frederik Nielsen (D) has just landed on the first big plane in Ilulissat and has spoken on the small platform in the arrivals hall.
The chairman of Naalakkersuisut’s speech is written with the historical perspective. The old airport in 1984 was a new chapter in its time, and now another new chapter starts in 2026.
– Many have worked for a long time to reach this day, says the chairman.
Therefore, according to Jens-Frederik Nielsen, there are also many who deserve thanks:
– Thank you to the many hands who have built the airport – in the cold, in the dark and in the wind. Thanks to the employees at Greenland Airports. Thanks to Air Greenland. And thanks to the Danish state, which has been our partner in the project.
– And thank you, citizens of Ilulissat. You have lived with the construction, the noise and the waiting time. Today the airport is yours.
Jens-Frederik Nielsen goes on to talk about how important a role infrastructure plays for Greenland, and that it is about tying the whole country together.
– We have learned from the opening in Nuuk, and I know that the employees here are ready for the task. We wish you all good work. Congratulations to Ilulissat. And congratulations to all of Greenland with the new airport, he says.
