He State Department North American awarded $150,000 grant to global engineering company Miyamoto International to support the preparation of Venezuelan students in seismic engineering, infrastructure and disaster preventionThe US embassy in Caracas reported this Wednesday.
The preparation will be carried out through collaboration between the Central University of Venezuela (UCV) and the Arizona State University (ASU, for its acronym in English), reported in X the chargé d’affaires of the United States, John Barrett.
“This project will train Venezuelan students in seismic engineering, resilient infrastructure and disaster prevention“Barrett indicated on the social network.
He added that the contribution is part of the United States’ commitment to investing in Venezuelan talent and in economic recovery under the three-phase plan from President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio (stabilization, recovery and transition).
The United States has been one of the countries that has supported Venezuela the most after the double earthquake on June 24, according to UN data.
In September, Venezuela signed a contract with Miyamoto International for the removal of 3 million tons of debris generated by the 7.2 and 7.5 magnitude earthquakes.
The contract also contemplates the “exchange of technical knowledge, the strengthening of construction standards in the country and the implementation of advanced protocols for disaster prevention and protection of the population,” the Venezuelan Ministry of Communication reported then.
The earthquakes left at least 6,509 dead, 14,239 homes with moderate damage and 11,001 homes with serious damage, according to the latest official balance sheet, published on August 24, two months after the tragedy.
