SAN MARINO – The Pensioners’ Federations of CSdL, CDLS and USL ask the Government for a meeting to address the issue of the loss of purchasing power of pensions and identify protection measures for the elderly of San Marino.
According to the unions, from 2022 the annual revaluation of pension allowances, governed by article 19 of Law no. 157, remained consistently below inflation. For minimum pensions the adjustment was 2.20%, with further reduced percentages for higher amounts. The overall loss of purchasing power in recent years is estimated by the Federations at around 16%.
Trade union organizations are also concerned about the increase in prices of basic necessities, in an international context characterized by persistent geopolitical tensions. A situation which, according to FUPS, FNPS and FP, particularly affects the economic conditions of the elderly population.
Among the critical issues reported there is also the reclassification of various therapeutic and pharmaceutical products into supplements, which would have led to an increase in treatment costs. The Federations report a growing number of pensioners in conditions of economic vulnerability, some of whom are struggling to make ends meet.
The request for discussion with the executive also arises from the difference between the situation of pensioners and that of active workers, who have benefited from recent contract renewals, with average increases of 3%.
“Our pensioners have been left stranded without tools for protection and income flexibility”, write CSdL, CDLS and USL.
The objective of the meeting is to present the difficulties encountered to the Government and urge timely interventions to safeguard and relaunch the purchasing power of pensions. The trade union organizations underline the need to guarantee social equity to a component that now represents a third of the San Marino population.
