During the opening of the new airport in Ilulissat on Thursday, a man in his 50s was arrested.
This is stated by duty manager Malik Olesen.
The arrest took place after the authorities had found around half a kilo of hash, which the man had tried to smuggle into the country on the very first flight from Denmark directly to Ilulissat.
The police received the report at 12.15 in the middle of the airport inauguration, after which the man was arrested.
The man was later released, but there will be a legal aftermath, says the warden.
Boat issued mayday
Later Thursday at 20.34 the police received a report from Aasiaat Radio that a boat south of Paamiut had issued a mayday.
There were two people on board, and the police launched a rescue operation in collaboration with the Arctic Command.
A boat set sail from Paamiut, while a helicopter was activated.
After a little over an hour’s sailing, the boat reached the people in distress, who had had problems steering the boat at the same time as there were high seas.
The warden says that the two boats were able to sail together back to Paamiut, where everyone arrived safely shortly before 23.
