Moscow/The Russian-Chinese strategic partnership has reached an unprecedented level, declared Russian Defense Minister Andrei Belousov during a working visit to China, as reported this Tuesday by the Russian military command.
“The strategic partnership between the Russian Federation and the People’s Republic of China has reached an unprecedented level,” said the Defense Minister during a meeting with Colonel General Zhang Shengmin, vice president of the Central Military Commission of China.
The Ministry of Defense published a video of the meeting on Telegram, in which Beloúsov highlighted that the Russian-Chinese partnership is based “on personal contacts between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping.”
Belousov stressed that the Russian-Chinese partnership is based “on the personal contacts between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping.”
The minister took the opportunity to congratulate Zhang “on his election as a member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China.”
For his part, the Chinese military emphasized that Putin and Xi “outlined new strategic guidelines for the development of Sino-Russian relations.”
“And the present meeting represents a practical step towards the implementation of the important agreements reached by our heads of state,” he asserted, expressing his confidence in the “continuous strengthening of friendship and cooperation between the armed forces of China and Russia.”
Beijing and Moscow have intensified their political, trade and military cooperation since Xi and Putin proclaimed “boundless friendship” shortly before Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
The rapprochement is also reflected in the energy field, where Russia seeks to consolidate itself as a supplier to China in a context of Western sanctions and disruptions to international supply as a result of the conflict in the Middle East.
