Sources from the National Police clarified to this medium the events recorded this Sunday in the vicinity of the Rod Carew Stadium, where several drivers captured on video armed police units interrupting vehicular traffic, generating alarm and uncertainty among passers-by.
According to the information, the intervention was due to a chase that began several kilometers from the place, after the provision of unauthorized public transport service was detected.
The events began at the Burunga roundabout, in the district of Arraiján, when a sedan vehicle was caught illegally picking up passengers (“piracy”).
Upon noticing the police presence, the driver fled in the direction of Panama City.
Security units began following the car along the road until intercepting it near Rod Carew Stadium.
At that point, the authorities proceeded to preventively stop the line of vehicles to neutralize the leak and carry out the corresponding verification of the driver and the sedan.
The National Police confirmed that the person responsible will be administratively sanctioned and referred to the competent authorities for the violations of escape and unauthorized transportation (piracy).
