The ICC is currently holding the General Assembly, where Sara Olsvig will hand over the presidency to Canada. Topics such as hunting and provisioning, peace and security and Inuit rights are also to be discussed during the meeting.
Inuit Circumpolar Councils general meeting had an opening ceremony on Tuesday 22 July.
The actual meeting starts today, where the ICC’s organization’s report is presented, after which the reports of the countries involved are presented alternately.
In the coming days, ICC International’s member states will discuss several topics. Among other things, the delegates must follow a panel debate on Inuit rights as well as on peace, security and cooperation between Inuit countries. Both will happen on Thursday.
On Friday, presentations will be held on Inuit hunting and security of supply, where, among others, the chairman of ICC Greenland Sara Olsvig and chairman of Inatsisartut Kim Kielsen will speak. The presentations will culminate in a panel discussion afterwards.
The meetings continue up to and including Sunday, ending with a cultural event in the evening.
The chairmanship of ICC International is now handed over to Canada. Herbert Nakimayak has been elected president of ICC Canada.
