Trump announced in September that the United States will henceforth call artificial intelligence “superintelligence”.
US Department of the Treasury wants international partners to rename artificial intelligence to “superintelligence”.
This is what a spokesperson from the ministry told the Reuters news agency.
The Trump administration is currently negotiating with other member countries of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to use the new designation in a statement.
Erin Browne, head of international affairs at the Treasury Department, declined to tell Reuters whether the United States would refuse to sign the declaration if the designation is not changed.
– I believe that it is a clear priority for the United States to use that designation, and we believe that it more accurately describes the technology in question, she tells Reuters.
At the same time, the US government hopes that the term “superintelligence” will catch on internationally when the US holds the rotating presidency of the G20 summit this year.
The meeting will be held in Miami in December.
The G20 is a forum consisting of 19 countries as well as the EU and the African Union, which is used to discuss global economic and financial issues.
US President Donald Trump announced in a speech to the UN General Assembly in September that the US government will henceforth refer to artificial intelligence as “superintelligence” in its official communications in the field.
In the speech, Trump argued that the word “artificial” understates the technology.
He expressed hope that the rest of the world will also adopt the alternative designation.
– It sounds much better. It’s much better and it’s much more accurate, Trump said.
The designation “superintelligence” for artificial intelligence comes after the Trump administration has been behind a series of name changes that have, among other things, renamed the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America, just as Lake Ontario has been renamed “Lake America”.
