In the early days of the investigation, the diversion of propofol and other anesthetics from the Italian Hospital led to two parallel judicial files. One originated from a complaint filed by the medical institution itself; the other, in a presentation made by the Association of Anesthetists, which provided additional information on the irregular release of drugs.
Both cases advanced along the same axis: how medications for in-hospital use had left the legal circuit and appeared in private homes. As the evidentiary measures progressed, Justice warned that the facts investigated, the protagonists and the traceability of the drugs were coincident, so it resolved unify the files into a single case.
The decision aimed to centralize the investigation, avoid duplication of expert reports and allow a reconstruction orderly of the clandestine propofol circuit. As of the unification, the case for the theft of anesthetics was left in the hands of the judge Javier Sánchez Sarmientowho concentrates all the actions linked to the theft, transfer and discovery of medications outside the hospital environment.
From a procedural point of view, The unification did not alter the accusations already established nor did it modify the central purpose of the file, which remains focused on determining criminal responsibilities for the irregular departure of drugs from the Italian Hospital. The investigation advances on the traceability of anesthetics, the roles of the professionals involved and the possible use that was given to them outside the authorized medical field.
In parallel, the death of anesthetist Alejandro Zalazar continues to be investigated in a separate caseunder the figure of investigation of doubtful death. Although both files share elements of context, such as the origin of the medications, Justice keeps the lines of investigation separate while continuing to produce evidence in each one.
