According to the report of Economy Online; Since the last 17 days, the activities of the country’s banks, especially the four big banks, have been disrupted. Of course, Saderat and National Banks announced this week by issuing notices to remove the disruption in their banking services.
At first, there were speculations that the banks were under cyber attacks, but then some social media users speculated about the intentional interruption of services.
Meanwhile, some MPs, including Morteza Mahmoudi and Amir Sayah, attributed the disruption of the country’s four major banks to the reopening of the Internet. Proof of this is that Mahmoudi wrote on his X page: “The several-day disruption in the main banks of the country is the result of the lack of commitment of the officials and their attachment to populist behaviors such as hastily opening the international Internet, without creating the necessary infrastructure and securing the network to protect the interests of the people against enemy cyber attacks.”
Sattar Hashemi, Minister of Communications, in response to these disputes and the publication of news related to the outage of the banking system, pointed out that most of the services of banks are on domestic platforms and the international internet has little to do with the domestic services of banks.
Was the banking equipment worn out or…?
With the prolongation of the malfunctioning of the banks, Jafar Qadri, the vice-chairman of the Economic Commission of the Majlis, in a conversation with Fars, identified the wear and tear of the equipment, the old banking software and the lack of attention to the specialized forces as the causes of the banking problems and emphasized the need to update, localize the systems and strengthen the security of the banking infrastructure.
This disruption was so long and objectionable that the central bank assured the people in an announcement that it will investigate the effects of this disruption on the current affairs of the people and economic activists and provide the necessary support.
The Secretary of the Economic Commission of the Islamic Council, in a post published on X social network, announced the problem caused by the attack on the infrastructure and service core of these four banks. These services were provided to these banks by the Informatics Services Company belonging to the Central Bank.
Madanizadeh’s words; Sohrab’s post-death potion
According to the report of Economy Online, while more than two weeks have passed since the disruption in the banks, Ali Madanizad, the head of the Ministry of Economy, promised to improve this disruption. These statements were made by a media official while the customers of the disturbed banks expected the Ministry of Economy to intervene sooner than this major issue. In a period of nearly three weeks, which is considered a strange record during the days of disruption in the banking system of a country, a large number of customers do not have access to their large and small assets, and they do not find an accountability institution to deal with this issue.
The prolongation of this disorder, in addition to creating direct costs for households, economic operators and production companies, has raised serious questions about the efficiency of crisis management mechanisms, coordination between economic institutions and the speed of response of responsible institutions.
From the point of view of economic governance, the Minister of Economy was expected to play a more active role in the management of public opinion and follow up on the elimination of the disorder in the very first days or the formation of a special headquarters. The delay in announcing the official position and promising to solve the problem after more than two weeks strengthened the impression that the reaction of the economic policymaker was not proportionate to the dimensions and sensitivity of this banking crisis.
