According to the online economy report, quoted by Ilna, Yaser Al-Mashal, the head of the Saudi Football Federation, resigned from his position after the early elimination of the country’s national team from the 2026 World Cup.
Al-Mashal announced on Sunday by publishing a message on X social network: “I believe that responsibility requires that the opportunity to start a new phase be provided; That’s why I decided not to continue in this position until the end of the current term.”
The Saudi national team could not meet the expectations in the group stage of the World Cup and failed to advance to the elimination stage by gaining only two points. The Saudis drew with Uruguay and Cape Verde and lost to Spain to finish bottom of Group H.
Al-Mashal’s resignation was done in a situation where Saudi Arabia is preparing to host the Asian Nations Cup at the beginning of next year. The competitions that will now be accompanied by a change in the management of the football federation of this country.
