Swiss national voter Murat Yakin commented on his team’s match against Algeria, in the round of 16 of the 2026 World Cup.
The Canadian city of Vancouver will host the stages of this confrontation, at dawn on July 3rd.
The Swiss newspaper “Blick” quoted coach Yakin as saying: “I watched the Algeria-Austria match together at the hotel with the technical staff. It was an exciting match, and ended with great enthusiasm. We are now preparing intensively for our match against Algeria. It will be an opportunity to face Vlado (Vladimir Petkovic) again, whom I know from our meetings in Switzerland. Algeria is a strong competitor, with many talented players. We are looking forward to this match.”
Technician Murat Yakin (51 years old) began the task of coaching the Swiss national team in August 2021, immediately after the departure of technician Vladimir Petkovic (62 years old), who held the same position for 7 years.
Both Yakin and Petkovic have second Swiss citizenship, only that the former is of Turkish origin, and the latter is from Bosnia and Herzegovina.
