Sahrawi National Council
Statement on the occasion of the National Day of the Sahrawi MP
Today, Thursday, is the occasion of the National Day of the Sahrawi MP, which coincides with the painful anniversary of the passing of the late Sahrawi people and the former head of the Sahrawi National Council, the martyr Mahfoud Ali Biba, who died the inevitable death while performing his national and militant duty at the head of the legislative body during the spring session of 2010, so that his name will remain immortal in the record of symbols of the Sahrawi national struggle and the process of building national institutions.
In commemoration of this memory, and in remembrance of his contributions and sacrifices, it was decided, on the first anniversary of his passing, that July 2 would be a national day for the Sahrawi MP, in fulfillment of his pure spirit, and in appreciation of the role he played in serving the people and the national cause and strengthening the position of the legislative institution in the path of liberation and construction.
On this national occasion, the Sahrawi National Council stands in reverence and mercy for the soul of the martyr Mahfoud Ali Biba, and for the souls of the righteous martyrs of the Sahrawi Liberation Revolution, who made the highest forms of sacrifice and giving for the freedom, dignity and sovereignty of their people, affirming the renewal of their pledge to continue the march in their footsteps, and to adhere to the legitimate national goals of the Sahrawi people until freedom and independence are achieved.
The National Representative’s Day represents a station to recall the history of the Sahrawi National Council Foundation and its long history, and to remember the efforts of the men and women who succeeded in its membership and made national parliamentary work an essential component in the battle for liberation and building the Sahrawi state and its institutions.
Since its establishment, the National Council has formed a space for embodying the popular will, consolidating the values of participation, responsibility, oversight and accountability, contributing to the enactment of national legislation, following up on the performance of the executive branch, and ensuring the implementation of programs and plans to ensure responding to citizens’ concerns and strengthening the steadfastness of the Sahrawi community in various fields.
At this delicate stage in the history of our people, the members of the Sahrawi National Council renew their full commitment to carrying out their national responsibilities with all seriousness and sincerity, and the constant readiness to sacrifice and give, in awareness of the nature of the challenges and dangers facing our national cause, and of the conspiracies that target our people’s right to freedom, self-determination, and the completion of their sovereignty over their land.
The resumption of the armed struggle at this crucial stage requires greater national unity, closer ranks, and integration of roles between the various state institutions and components of society, and strengthening the rally around the Popular Front for the Liberation of Saguia El Hamra and Wadi Eddahab, as it is the political and organizational framework that has led the path of the national struggle for decades.
The Sahrawi National Council also confirms that its role is not limited to following up on internal affairs and evaluating institutional performance, but rather extends to the various aspects of the battle for liberation and construction, by strengthening parliamentary diplomacy, activating relations of cooperation and friendship with parliaments and international organizations, and mobilizing more support and support for the national cause.
The National Council reaffirms the legal and political nature of the Sahrawi issue as an issue of decolonization, calling on the United Nations and the international community to assume their historical and legal responsibilities, put an end to the stalemate, and enable the Sahrawi people to exercise their inalienable right to self-determination and independence in accordance with international legitimacy.
On this occasion, the Sahrawi National Council pays tribute to the fighters of the Sahrawi People’s Liberation Army, the protectors of the homeland and the defenders of the dignity and gains of the Sahrawi people, who continue to write bright pages of steadfastness and sacrifice in defense of right and freedom.
The National Council also salutes the Sahrawi civilian prisoners in the prisons of the Moroccan occupation, and expresses to them the utmost appreciation and gratitude for the steadfastness and perseverance they embody, and through them it pays tribute to the heroes of the blessed independence uprising who continue to confront the policies of oppression, abuse and siege in defense of the legitimate rights of their people.
At the conclusion of this statement, the Sahrawi National Council calls on all Sahrawi people, in their various locations, as they commemorate the fifty-first anniversary of the founding of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Saguia El Hamra and Wadi Eddahab and the outbreak of the armed struggle, to strengthen national unity, strengthen the spirit of steadfastness and resistance, and confront all attempts aimed at undermining the gains of our people and their national institutions.
The current stage requires greater mobilization, vigilance, and readiness to continue the liberation process, and to raise the pace of the struggle in all its forms, until the legitimate aspirations of the Sahrawi people for freedom, independence, and complete national sovereignty are achieved.
