KABUL (Pajhwok): At least 14 children have been killed and nine others, including a teacher, wounded after the roof of a tuition centre collapsed in the eastern Pakistani city of Lahore, media reports said on Wednesday.
The incident occurred on Tuesday in the Kahna area of Lahore, Al Jazeera reported.
It said the children who lost their lives were between four and 12 years old. The injured were taken to hospital for treatment.
Senior police official Faisal Kamran said rescue teams were continuing to search through the rubble, as more people were feared trapped beneath the debris.
Police said the tuition centre was operating in an old building and that the unfinished roof of the second floor had apparently collapsed due to poor construction quality.
Police also said the owner of the tuition centre and another individual had been arrested in connection with the incident.
Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed sorrow over the deaths of the children, wished the injured a speedy recovery and directed the authorities to provide them with all necessary medical facilities.
