The leader USR, Dominic Fritzclaims he will talk to Ilia Bolojan and Kelemen Hunorthe leaders PNL and UDMRto decide the first steps regarding the negotiations requested by President Nicușor Dan for the formation of a government minority
Fritz reiterates the point that USR he is not willing to support a form of government to be a part of P.S.D.
Asked about how the talks requested by the head of state between the parties could proceed to form a new majority, Dominic Fritz declared, on Tuesday evening, June 23, 2026, on Euronews Romania, that he would have consultations with the leader PNLIlie Bolojan, as well as with that of UDMRKelemen Hunor.
“Normally you have one premier appointed, who formally leads this discussion, negotiation process. This does not exist now. Moreover, last time when we negotiated the Bolojan Government, it took over a month to agree on all the things in the program. What I can tell you is that I am also in contact with Ilie Bolojan and Kelemen Hunor, and we will talk together in a first step, to define possible steps”, said Dominic Fritz.
The USR leader stated that he is also open to a conversation with the president P.S.D, Sorin Grindeanubut reiterated the fact that USR does not trust PSD.
“Such negotiations are somehow not a meeting of accountants, where one says, come on, I’ll give you two, you give me one, that one gives me one more and I end up at zero. It’s a political negotiation that, in the end, needs a basic minimum, of trust that everything the other says is also real and he wants this to happen. And, unfortunately, this is precisely the source of the crisis we’re in, that we don’t trust the PSD”, added Dominic Fritz.
He also said that USR will not support a government in which PSD will be a part.
President Nicușor Dan conveyed, on Tuesday evening, at the end of the consultations with the parliamentary parties, that the option that seems to be taking shape is that of a minority political governmentwhich is based on a agreement pre-agreed support parliamentarian.
“The whole process must take place at an accelerated pace,” the President of Romania said.
The head of state announced that he is waiting for the parties to conclude this agreement and make proposals to him.
