KUCHING (June 29): SEDC Energy Sdn Bhd (SEDCE) is ready to implement the Budi Madani Diesel (Budi Diesel) programme across its Petros Multifuel Station (MFS) network when it is rolled out nationwide on July 1.
Its chief executive officer, Robert Hardin, said the company fully supports the government’s implementation of the targeted diesel subsidy programme, describing it as an important initiative to strengthen the subsidy mechanism while ensuring assistance reaches eligible recipients.
“The programme will significantly reduce leakages, enhance transparency and support the long-term sustainability of Malaysia’s fuel subsidy framework,” he said during an interview at Petros MFS Darul Hana here on Monday.
Robert said SEDCE, which develops the downstream petroleum retail business under the Petros MFS brand, had strengthened its operational readiness following its experience with the earlier rollout of the Budi Madani RON95 (Budi95) programme.
He said preparations included staff training and system integration to ensure the diesel subsidy programme could be implemented smoothly across its service station network.
On June 24, SEDCE also conducted a live demonstration of its readiness for the Budi Diesel implementation during a visit by Second Finance Minister Senator Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan.
“The demonstration showcased the readiness of our systems and operational processes to ensure a smooth rollout on July 1,” he said.
Robert said a standardised implementation across participating fuel retailers would help reduce subsidy leakages by ensuring subsidised diesel is provided only to eligible recipients.
He said the initiative would strengthen the integrity of the targeted subsidy system while contributing to a more efficient and sustainable fuel distribution mechanism.
“In the longer term, these measures support greater market stability and responsible fiscal management,” he added.
Ahead of the programme’s implementation, Robert urged eligible consumers and businesses to complete their Budi Madani registration and familiarise themselves with the programme requirements.
“We also encourage customers to follow official announcements and seek assistance from our staff at Petros MFS if they require guidance.
“SEDCE remains committed to supporting a smooth transition and providing the best possible service throughout the implementation of the Budi Madani Diesel programme,” said Robert.
The Ministry of Finance has announced that the Budi Diesel programme will be implemented nationwide from July 1.
Under the targeted diesel subsidy mechanism, eligible recipients can purchase subsidised diesel at participating fuel stations after verifying their eligibility through the Budi Madani system.
The initiative is intended to ensure subsidies are channelled only to eligible individuals and businesses while reducing leakages and improving the efficiency of subsidy distribution.
