Customs officials at Misrata Free Zone port say they have foiled an attempt to smuggle a large shipment of drugs into Libya.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the customs authority said two containers were intercepted under the supervision of prosecutors in East Misrata.
The shipment contained 4,752 pieces of hashish, each weighing about 1.15kg, bringing the total quantity seized to more than five tonnes.
Officials said the drugs had been carefully concealed and packaged using sophisticated methods, hidden among other goods inside the containers.
A Libyan national has been arrested in connection with the case, and legal procedures are under way to refer him to the public prosecution.
