“Almost two months have passed since the PSD generated this political crisis by dismissing the Bolojan Government. Since then, Romania has been in a deadlock that affects trust, the economy and the state’s ability to make decisions. The National Liberal Party did not limit itself to criticism. We came up with concrete and responsible solutions to unblock the situation. We made proposals, looked for compromise formulas and put options on the President’s table that could offer Romania a functional government”wrote Robert Sighiartău on his Facebook page.
The general secretary of PNL accused PSD that “he preferred to continue the political game that brought Romania to this impasse, instead of taking responsibility and contributing to overcoming the crisis”.
According to him, “even the options promoted by the President of Romania failed to unblock the situation”, but “they increased tensions and made it even more difficult to form a majority to invest a government”.
“If there is no longer the possibility of forming a government, then it is time to return to the citizens”Sighiartău concluded.
The statements come in the context in which the leaders of the parties left the negotiations in Cotroceni after about an hour of discussions with the president Nicușor Dan. The meeting was marked by several tensions between the head of state and the representatives of the parliamentary formations. Thus, the appointment of the new prime minister is postponed, and the political crisis deepens, against the background of the lack of an agreement for the formation of a majority.
The head of state sent a public message accusing the National Liberal Party that he changed his position on the original agreements, thus blocking the formation of a new government.
Later, PNL leader Ilie Bolojan stated that his party will not unconditionally support the candidacy of Sorin Grindeanu for the position of prime minister. Moreover, the formation he leads does not accept one “blank check” in the negotiations for the formation of the future government.
