Sovereignty and Maru, topics that dominated party coverage; Morena and PAN come out stronger

May 2026 was dominated by two fronts that crossed almost all parties: the diplomatic offensive of USA about alleged criminal interference in Sinaloawhich the ruling party capitalized on under the discourse of “defense of sovereignty“, and the cross dispute between Brunette and BREAD in the case of the governor of Chihuahua, Maru Campos.

Despite the controversy narcopolitics surrounding it, Morena closed the month with the studio’s strongest reputational balance, while the PRI It was the only party whose net balance was negative.

The month revolved around a triple narrative: the request for political trial against Maru Campos for alleged intervention of the INCthe call for national mobilizations against the US accusations, and the approval, after a marathon session in San Lázaro, of the postponement of the judicial election to 2028.

On the negative front, Ruben Rocha Moya requested a license in Sinaloa, the senator Enrique Inzunza He was absent from the Permanent Commission amid accusations that escalated to red cards from Interpol, and the party faced criticism for the politicization of the school year in Mexico City, in addition to internal friction with the departure of Andrés Manuel López Beltrán and the veto of Saúl Monreal in Zacatecas.

The frame of national sovereignty outweighed the narcopolitical wear and tear and left Morena with the best balance of the month.

Almost 85% of the PAN’s coverage in May revolved around a single topic: the defense of Maru Campos Galván.

Jorge Romero led the narrative of political persecution of the Attorney General’s Office (FGR), called for support mobilizations, demanded an immigration alert against Rocha Moya and managed to get PAN governors to close ranks with the Chihuahuan leader.

The intensity of Morena’s offensive against Campos ended up building its national profile, in a pattern that recalls how it started Xochitl Galvez: It was Morena who inflated it.

The party also got involved in the debate over the visit of Isabel Diaz Ayusowhich subtracted part of its positive balance, but even so it closed May with the best reputational balance of the month, above Morena itself.

The PRI maintained the most fragile profile of the six parties and lost ground to the PAN as the second media force.

BREAD and MC They publicly ruled out alliances with the tricolor, while Alito Moreno’s statements in the United States, in the context of the Sinaloa case, triggered external and internal criticism.

The erosion of leadership deepened with the resignation of Hector Yunes Landa after almost 50 years of militancy, accusing Alejandro Moreno to “hijack” the party. The PRI closed May, once again, as the only one with a negative net reputational balance.

Jorge Álvarez Máynez He led the demand for impeachment in Sinaloa and the rejection of the block of electoral reforms promoted by Morena, although without the votes to stop it.

The party also faced a delicate month in security: the murder of a councilor in Talpa de Allende and a spokesperson in Guadalajara, in addition to accusations that link it to the infiltration of Los Ardillos in Guerrero.

He Labor Party He navigated a dual position: he proposed capitalizing on Morena’s wear and tear and tensions with the United States with a radical left speech, while Alberto Anaya promoted a “front for national sovereignty.”

President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo described the complaints about Sinaloa and the presence of the CIA as an “armed orchestration,” anchoring the PT to the official narrative, although the judicial reform generated a specific break with opposition accusations of constitutional violations.

The Green Party had its most aligned and silent month: Karen Castrejon strengthened his profile in Warrior After closing ranks with the President, the alliance with Morena was ratified towards the 2027 electoral process and the candidacy of Ruth Gonzalez for San Luis Potosi.

The only negative nuance came from the accusations against Senator Enrique Inzunza, which tarnished a tripartite meeting with Morena and the Labor Party.

They congratulate Sheinbaum on his 64th birthday; a world leader, they say
