The LUGA (Luxembourg Urban Garden) actually ended last October. But a garden designed by the “Fédération horticole luxembourgeoise” (FHL) lives on in the Pescatore Park in Luxembourg City. According to Josiane Walentiny, secretary of the FHL, the idea for this came from Maurice Bauer (CSV), who, as an alderman, is responsible for, among other things, parks and green spaces. Mayor Lydie Polfer (DP) opened the new green space on Wednesday. She symbolically cut through a garland of plants with secateurs.
Not yet known how long the installation will last
“The works of art that the gardeners created really brightened up this part of town,” Bauer said. And: Biodiversity is promoted. “Thousands of insects find a home in a hedge like this.” Park visitors can also benefit from shade from plants. At the same time, QR codes provide background information on the individual flowers and shrubs.
However, it is not yet clear how long the installation will remain in place. The gardening company that developed the system will initially maintain it until October 2026. However, both the city and the FHL were open to further collaboration.
