As we have recently become aware of the intentions of the Ministry of Energy and Mining, through the Supplement to the Annual Plan for the granting of concessions for detailed geological research and exploitation of mineral resources for the year 2026, and under the slogan of investments, new values and jobs, it is trying to outline a new quarry in the area of Mrkojević, i.e. Goran, this way I want to publicly inform them that they will have strong institutional and civil resistance in their intention and that they will not realize their idea the way someone imagined – by entering through the “small door”, announced the president of the Club of DPS Councilors in the Bar Municipal Assembly, Asim Andrić.
“The facts are well known to everyone that the residents of Velja Gorana have been leading an institutional struggle for many years to prevent a new quarry on the site of “Velja Gorana”, which would lead to the devastation of the area, threaten the environment and, most importantly, leave harmful consequences for the health and lives of people,” announced Andrić.
For the sake of the public, he states, the location that the Ministry is planning to grant a concession under the name “Bederla” is in the immediate vicinity or on the same location as the concession area where the one that the locals have been opposing for years is located.
“That’s why I’m telling the representatives of the Ministry, who probably think that they can “slip” this locality through the amendment of the Annual Plan in this way, that it won’t be possible just like that, because some previous experiences teach us that now we have to be more careful and careful,” says Andrić.
Andrić also reminds of the conclusion of the Bar Municipal Assembly and the clearly stated position of the Municipality of Bar, which was submitted to the Ministry of Energy and Mining several times, that the opening of new quarries in Bar is a plan that the Bar local administration opposes.
“For this reason, I once again invite them to exclude the “Bederla” site from the amendment to the Annual Plan, because now is the right time to do so, until the concession calls have been launched and the contracts have been concluded. Certainly, as a councilor and citizen of Mrkojević and Bar, I will also send an official letter to the Ministry, and I believe that you will also hear the voice of the citizens, precisely those who have been fighting against this and similar intentions for years. “Plan development and new jobs in a different way, in other places and through other strategies, and not in a way that destroys one place and people’s health,” concludes Andrić.
