A police constable has appeared before the Port of Spain Masters’ Court in connection with a common assault charge.
Dextroy Manswell, 43, appeared on Tuesday before Master Valerie Gomez Abraham. He was granted bail in the sum of $50,000 with surety.
The court imposed conditions as part of bail. These include no direct or indirect contact with the complainant, maintaining a distance of 200 feet, and residing at a stated address for the duration of the matter.
The case was adjourned to May 28.
The charge follows an investigation into an incident alleged to have taken place on April 1, 2025. Reports state that the complainant was slapped by the accused and threatened with a firearm.
Investigations were conducted by the Special Victims Department under the supervision of Inspector Darren Baptiste. A file was submitted to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, which advised that the charge be laid.
The accused remains before the court as the matter proceeds.
The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service stated that it continues to treat all matters under the law and due process. It stated that officers are subject to the law and that reports are addressed through the court system.
No plea was recorded during the hearing.
The accused is expected to return to court on the adjourned date as proceedings continue.
