US First Lady Melania Trump objected to one of her husband’s closest aides sleeping in the White House, but was ultimately overruled.
According to a new book by prominent New York Times journalists Maggie Haberman and Jonathan Swan, it’s Elon Musk.
While Musk was at the head of the government body DOGA, he asked Donald Trump for permission to sleep in the White House. Trump agreed, but Melania opposed it. Despite her opposition, Musk still spent several nights at the presidential residence.
The book states that Musk spent some nights at a friend’s house, while occasionally sleeping in a sleeping bag on the floor of his office.
Later, Musk himself bragged about those stays in front of the press. He said that Trump personally invited him during the flight on the presidential plane Air Force One and organized a private tour of the White House, including the famous Lincoln bedroom.
Musk described Trump as a very generous host who even texted him late at night to get ice cream from the kitchen.
This detail is just one in a series of revelations about the dynamic but often strained relationship between Donald Trump and Melania Trump.
According to the authors, the spouses sleep in separate bedrooms, and minor “battles” were fought between them over interior decoration, the Independent reports, referring to the Daily Beast.
