The government and the Macedonian MFA never once showed the document, whether they have it with them or they are just referring to what was published on Facebook. Our attempts to get answers to these questions were in vain. How are Mutsunski and Mickoski so sure that the diplomatic note leaked from the Bulgarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs? Maybe the document leaked from our MFA or our embassy?!
After the case of the “leaked” diplomatic note in which the Macedonian embassy in Bulgaria shared information with the Bulgarian MFA about the trip of the wife and son of Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski to Pamporovo strained relations between the two countries, the Bulgarian MFA distanced itself from any responsibility.
From there, they denied that the document was leaked from them and explained that the information that is circulating refers to a verbal note dated January 6, 2026, that is, it is related “to events of the past”. According to the Bulgarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, this documentation cannot be considered as a basis for the conclusion that there is an immediate security threat to the citizens of Bulgaria or another country.
And now what?
The diplomatic note that raised dust in the public and, as the prime minister said, “radicalized relations with Bulgaria” appeared a week ago in a certain Facebook group in the Bulgarian language. It is true that it refers to an event from the past, that is, to an event from six months ago, so the Prime Minister’s claim that the safety of his family is at risk does not hold water. Another thing is that the document was shared in real time, while his wife and son were in Pamporovo. Then their safety would really be at risk.
But what is more worrying and raises additional questions in the public is where the note really leaked from and what is the background of this “diplomatic incident” in the current conditions.
Why did the document appear after six months when messages and warnings are constantly arriving from the European Union and from Bulgaria that the Government should complete its obligations from the Negotiating Framework and insert the Bulgarians into the Constitution if it wants to Europeanize the country. Is someone deliberately causing diplomatic scandals in order to strain the relations between the two countries and is this being done in order to distract the public’s attention? Who does that benefit? Who benefits from making dramatic statements, pointing fingers at someone without any basis and fueling tensions?
What is surprising is that the “leaked” diplomatic note, as a document, contains only the notice of the trip of Mickoski’s family and their entourage. No signature, seal, or logo of an institution is visible on it. Nothing. Hence, it is logical to ask the question, was it possible that the document was leaked before it was sent?

Dust is being raised without any evidence. Even our NATO partners were informed about this “precedent”, as Mutsunski and Mickoski called it.
And what did they tell them? You know, “Grubovci Enidze Vardar” shared a document and Bulgaria threatened the safety of the Prime Minister’s family. It doesn’t work that way.
There are many uncertainties in the whole situation, which smells much more like a drama and an attempt to defocus the public than a serious diplomatic scandal.
There is no need to radicalize relationships with cheap tricks. Diplomacy is not conducted with buy day sell and populism but with serious, wise moves and negotiations.
Most likely, the whole case will remain floating in the air for a few more days in order to score some more minor political points and it will be forgotten. Someone will say, where there is smoke there is fire. But this smoke looks more like dust.
