The mother of France coach Didier Deschamps died on Tuesday, and the French technician will travel to the country to attend the funeral. He will be missing from the Les Bleus bench in the match against Norway.
Didier Deschamps will also not lead the French national team’s training sessions in the coming days and will not be on the bench for Les Bleus’ match against Norway, which depends on where France finish in Group I.
“In agreement with Philippe Diallo, the president of the French Football Federation, present at the training camp of the French national team, Didier Deschamps entrusted his assistant, Guy Stéphan, with the responsibility of leading the team until his return,” the French Federation announced in a statement.
In June 2022, Didier Deschamps missed a match against Denmark following the death of his father.
