Manchester – India defeated Bangladesh by 5 wickets in the Women’s Twenty20 Cricket World Cup on the strength of opening batsman Shefali Verma’s half-century and bowling performance by Radha Yadav, Sreecharani. India chased down Bangladesh’s target of 137 runs with 19 balls to spare. Score: Bangladesh 136 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in 20 overs. India 139 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in 16.5 overs.
With the win, India are second in the group with 6 points from 4 matches with 3 wins and 1 loss. Australia has won four out of four matches and is currently on top. India’s last match in the group is against Australia on the 28th. If they beat Aussies in the final match, India will enter the semi-finals. Even if South Africa and Bangladesh lose their next matches, India will enter the semi-finals.
India’s top scorer is Shefali Verma who scored 53 runs off 34 balls including one six and eight fours against Bangladesh. Shefali Verma – Yatsika Bhatia put on 45 runs in 34 balls for the second wicket. Yatsika Bhatia returned with 23 off 18 balls. Opener Smriti Manthana (8 runs), Richa Ghosh (10 runs) and Jemima Rodrigues (26 runs) were the other batsmen dismissed. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur (13 runs) and Deepti Sharma (1) remained unbeaten.
Earlier, Juwairiya Ferdows – Shobhana Mostari’s second wicket partnership of 51 off 42 balls gave Bangladesh a better score. Juwairiya Ferdows is the top scorer in Bangladesh who scored 33 runs off 31 balls. Shobhana scored 22 runs. Nigar Sultana (32 runs), Shorna Akhtar (13) and Sharmin Akhtar (10) also performed well. Radha Yadav took three wickets and Sreecharani two wickets for India. Renuka Singh and medium pacer Nandani Sharma took a wicket each.
