KUCHING (June 24): The Sarawak Timber Industry Development Corporation (STIDC) is showcasing the state’s furniture products and sustainable wood-based industries at the 33rd Consumer Fair and Trade Expo (CFTE) in Brunei, as it seeks to expand regional market opportunities and attract investment into Sarawak.
Held at the International Convention Centre (ICC) in Berakas, Brunei from June 24 to 28, the expo features more than 700 booths, international pavilions and business-matching sessions, making it one of Brunei’s largest trade events.
STIDC Industrial Development Manager Lundy Joe Sibat said the event provides an important platform for Sarawak’s timber industry to engage directly with regional buyers and business partners.
“Being here at the 33rd CFTE is a fantastic opportunity for us to connect face-to-face with our regional neighbours and partners. Brunei is an incredibly valued market for Sarawak,” he said in a statement.
Lundy said the exhibition is not merely about displaying products, but also about highlighting the innovation and sustainability underpinning Sarawak’s timber sector.
“This expo isn’t just about showcasing products; it’s about sharing the story of innovation and sustainability behind Sarawak’s timber industry today.
“We are really looking forward to the business-matching sessions to build genuine, long-term partnerships that will benefit enterprises on both sides of the border,” he added.
Among the Sarawak companies participating under the STIDC pavilion are Kayusar Sdn Bhd, Solo Timber Sdn Bhd, Brown Two Furniture and Hap Lee Fun Enterprise.
The event was officiated by Brunei Deputy Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Dayang Tutiaty Abdul Wahab.
Commenting on the scale of the trade event, D’Sunlit Sdn Bhd Head of Corporate Communications Ting Chul San described the CFTE as more than a consumer fair.
She said the CFTE serves as a platform for businesses and consumers to connect, while creating opportunities for networking, collaboration, market expansion and economic development.
On another matter, Lundy also highlighted investment opportunities in Tanjung Manis at the fair.
He said STIDC has been a key driver in transforming the Tanjung Manis economic zone into a robust industrial and commercial hub.
He said ongoing developments include dedicated furniture parks, enhanced deep-water port facilities and the expansion of the integrated township, aimed at boosting export value through high-value downstream activities as well as the aquaculture and halal sectors.
“We highly encourage international investors to look closely at the incredible possibilities Tanjung Manis has to offer.
“With its strategic location, ready-made infrastructure and STIDC’s comprehensive support frameworks, it is the perfect base for businesses wanting to expand their footprint in the Asean region,” he said.
