BANJALUKA – The Student Cultural Center (SKC) of the University of Banja Luka has prepared a rich program from June 22 to 27 on the occasion of its second anniversary.
The head of SKC, Mladen Banjac, stated for “Nezavisne” that culture is one of the strongest driving forces of both society as a whole and individuals.
The youngest cultural institution in the city
“Since we are the youngest cultural institution in the city, primarily oriented towards student production and consumption of culture, we are quite satisfied with the results achieved. Our primary goal is to build an audience – primarily students. Of course, we are also oriented towards the rest of the city’s audience,” said Banjac.
SKC says that the advantage of this institution, among other things, is providing the first real professional experiences, as well as filling potential “gaps” as part of regular teaching activities.
“We try to be programmatically different compared to other cultural institutions, also offering the audience different lectures, screenings of films by lesser-known cinematographers, of course in addition to the author’s works of our students. You can find many other events of the widest cultural domain in the program of SKC”, said Banjac, emphasizing the importance of the consumption of culture today.
A brief description of the activity
He called the birthday repertoire a summary of their standard annual activities.
Birthday repertoire of SKC
As part of SKC’s birthday repertoire, the audience will enjoy the exhibition “Skin” on Monday, the opening of which will also mark the beginning of the entire celebration of the second anniversary.
“Each person has their own interpretation of the concept of skin. In the context of my exhibition, skin represents something that is the first frame of our existence,” stated the author of the exhibition, Maja Grabovica.
After that, the next two days of the program are devoted to reviews of animated and feature-length student films.
“On Thursday, June 25, at 7 p.m., we celebrate the 150th anniversary of the birth of the poet Milan Rakić through the poetic and stage play “Remember me in your prayers,” announced acting student and program participant Petar Čančar.
“Baster, remember me always”
Friday (June 26) is reserved for the premiere of the monodrama “Baster, remember me always”, the exam monodrama of the fourth-year acting student Veljko Milijić.
“The preparation process lasted from October, but the text was finished in February, when I focused on the acting aspect of the play. The idea for the play came during the lectures on silent film, when we touched on Buster Keaton, among other great actors of the time. He is one of the most important actors, directors, stuntmen and comedians in the history of film, recognizable by the fact that he never laughed. His films such as “The General”, “Sherlock Jr.” and “Scarecrow” enchanted me so much that I chose his personality and life as the inspiration for my exam monodrama,” said Milijić, adding that the drama focuses on the era of cinematography in the 1920s.
Milijić also stated that the most complicated parts of the process for him were writing the text without a single line, recording the video material that he incorporated into the play, and basing the character on movement and gags as the main means of expression.
Final concert
With the final concert “Tastiera e fisarmonica per luce” on Saturday, June 27, the students of the musical arts studies of the Banja Luka Academy will present a fitting finale to the SKC’s birthday repertoire.
“Soon we will have a summer break, so we left the best for farewell. The repertoire season continues from September this year,” said Banjac, once again inviting the audience to turn out in as large a number as possible.
