The Iraqi Ministry of Oil announced today, Saturday, the start of drilling the first exploratory well in the northern governorates since 1978.
The Ministry stated in a statement carried by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that this well is the first of its kind in the northern governorates since 1978, noting that it comes within the framework of the Ministry’s directions to stimulate exploratory work and develop promising patches and reservoirs, with the aim of enhancing hydrocarbon reserves of oil and gas and increasing national reserves.
The Minister of Oil, Basem Muhammad Khudair, confirmed, according to the statement, that the ministry is continuing to implement its exploratory programs aimed at enhancing oil and gas reserves, explaining that directing the drilling of this well represents an important step to reactivate exploratory activity in promising areas after many years of cessation.
He added that the Ministry continues to implement its plans to expand exploration operations in various regions, thus contributing to supplying the national reserves with new discoveries and enhancing the economic sustainability of Iraq.
