Simon Zereci has been appointed General Director of the Guard of the Republic of Albania.

“In implementation of Article 17 of Law 33/2021 “On the Guard of the Republic of Albania”, as amended, Mr. Simon Zereci has been appointed General Director of the Guard of the Republic and holds the rank of Major Director,” the announcement states.
Zereci was born in Tirana and graduated from the “Skënderbej” military high school, while he then attended higher studies at the United Officers’ High School, in the “All-Arms” specialty.
He started his military career in 1986 in the structures of the Ministry of Defense, where he served first as Platoon Commander in the Zadrimë Military Department and then in other functions as Head of Training.
In 1988 he joined the Guard of the Republic, holding various operational and leadership positions, including Platoon Commander, Deputy Commander of the Operative Company, as well as functions in the security structures of high state dignitaries.
During his service, he was also in charge and participant in the escort and protection groups of state dignitaries, as well as Group Commander in the Special Unit. From 2013 onwards, Zereci held the position of Commander of the Special Unit of the Republic Guard.
In September 1998, while exercising his duties as Deputy Commander of the Operative Company, he was injured in the line of duty.
During his career, Zereci has attended a number of trainings and qualifications at home and abroad, including VIP protection courses in Egypt, training with American instructors for the security of high state dignitaries, international security programs, as well as training in advanced “Krav Maga Maor” self-defense techniques.
