MIRI (June 22): Traffic lights at the Pan Borneo Highway Niah-Miri Interchange at the Ulu Niah flyover have been down since Saturday and motorists are advised to slow down and exercise caution while passing through here.
Public Works Department (JKR) Miri divisional engineer Stephen Ung said this was due to a power supply cut to the traffic light system and efforts are underway to restore it.
“To update, we found no incoming supply on site to the traffic light system at the Niah Interchange. We have informed Sesco for further checking on site and their men are at the site now.
“We will continue to follow up with Sesco from time to time until the problem is resolved. So far, there is no further update yet,” he told The Borneo Post when contacted on Monday morning.
Netizens have raised concerns about road safety after some motorists were surprised to see the traffic lights out of service.
“Please remain alert and drive safely, especially during peak hours and adverse weather conditions,” one netizen posted in the Niah Community Facebook page.
