BRISTOL England – West Indies Women’s head coach Shane Deitz has warned his side against complacency after their unbeaten start to the ICC Women’s T20 Cricket World Cup.
The regional side defeated Sri Lanka by five wickets on Sunday to complete their third consecutive victory in the tournament, following wins over New Zealand and Scotland.
It has left them with a maximum six points and they currently sit second in Group B behind England on net run rate.
Despite the Windies being perfectly placed to secure one of the two semifinal spots, Deitz has stressed the importance of winning their remaining games against England and Ireland.
Speaking in a post-match press conference on Sunday, Deitz said the Windies had not yet punched their ticket.
“New Zealand if they win their games, they’ve got two losses and if we lose two games, we’ve got two losses, so still a long way to go. We’re nowhere near the semifinals yet.
“We’re playing okay cricket, but we need to improve and anyone can beat you on any day here, so we’ve still got to win at least one more game,” Deitz said.
“Hopefully on Wednesday we put in a good performance at Lord’s to beat England and then we’ll think that we’re in the semifinals.” (CMC)
